While still in high school, she showed promise as a fledgling poet and her work was included in an anthology by a Berkeley publishing house. Worried she was headed for a life of poverty, her parents shipped her off to college in Washington state. After college she went to work for Nordstrom Advertising gaining a reputation as a shrewd negotiator and strategic planner. Eleven years (and a transfer to San Francisco later), she took a job as National Advertising Manager for Birkenstock USA. Three years thereafter she moved to Nebraska taking a position as Director of Consumer Marketing for giftpoint.com. Janis emerged from her first stint in the digital world when giftpoint.com was sold. Rogue pencil in hand, she moved to the Twin Cities and began her freelance career. A nomad at heart, Janis now splits her time between New Mexico, San Francisco and Minneapolis. |
